In Roman mythology Mars was the son
of Juno and the God of War. The
father of the twins Romulus and Remus (the founders of
Rome), Mars was considered the father of the Roman
people. Moreover, since the Romans were such great
soldiers, Mars was an especially important god.
His festivals were held during the vernal equinox
in March (the month named for him) and in October.
